The free FleetBoard fleet management app – keeping a clear view on the road
Daimler FleetBoard is the first provider of telematic solutions to offer a fleet management and operating analysis app for the Apple iPhone and iPad.
In this first release vehicle positions and tours can be followed live with a vehicle or driver-related display of the driving style evaluation for the last tour, schedulers are able to send text messages to the drivers at any time enabling them to accept assignments at short notice while keeping an eye on the remaining driving time and the latest FleetBoard manuals, user reports and news are made available.
Fleet operators attach increasing importance to round-the-clock control of their fleet's cost-effectiveness, and want continuous communication with their vehicles. Wherever the vehicles are, the FleetBoard fleet management app provides them with information whether tours are running as scheduled, or whether some form of action needs to be taken – if necessary also at night.
With this app, FleetBoard provides even more transparency and an additional fleet management tool for increased productivity throughout the vehicle fleet.
Download the app for free from the app store NOW!

Daimler FleetBoard flies high at Cranleigh Freight Services Ltd

Real time management… staff in Cranleigh Freight Services’ traffic office rely on Daimler FleetBoard to track vehicle locations and monitor drivers’ hours
One of Britain’s leading airfreight road-feeder specialists is benefiting from fuel cost savings and greatly improved management controls after stepping up its use of Daimler FleetBoard telematics systems.
Significantly, most of the Cranleigh Freight Services (CFS) vehicles equipped with this state-of-the-art technology are DAFs – as a sister company of Mercedes-Benz, Daimler FleetBoard is more commonly associated with the three-pointed star but its systems also deliver impressive results when retrofitted to other makes of truck.
CFS gained its first experience of FleetBoard’s capabilities three years ago, when it took delivery of five Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor units with factory-fitted telematics systems.
“Our main interest initially was in vehicle tracking,” recalls Tim Munro, Transport Manager, CFS. “But we were ecstatic when we realised how much more Daimler FleetBoard offered in terms of valuable extra functionality, and quickly set about fitting its systems to more of our trucks.”
Today, all but four of family-owned CFS’s 52 tractor units are equipped with Daimler FleetBoard telematics and the number continues to grow.
Key to the success of this technology has been its ability to measure driver performance against a range of criteria such as over revving, harsh braking, idling, speeding and ‘green band’ driving, highlighting areas in which improvements can be made.
“It’s difficult to make precise comparisons because loads and routes are changing all the time,” says Mr Munro. “But we have drivers who were previously averaging 7mpg and are now consistently returning 8-10mpg.
“FleetBoard has played a crucial part in helping us to achieve these improvements. It revealed, for example, that some ‘old school’ drivers were not turning on their cruise controls, or using their engine brakes properly – we’ve now been able to address these shortcomings in style and attitudes, and our fuel efficiency has increased as a result.”

World class: The FleetBoard Drivers' League world champion is crowned
There was much excitement at the live final of the 8th annual FleetBoard Drivers' League, as 20 truck drivers from 9 countries competed for the title on Saturday 11th September.
This year the two UK entries included a driver that also got through to the final last year, after being the 2nd placed driver in the UK national league 2009. Graham Huxley and Stephen Hornsby, both from Clarke International based in Alfreton near Derby, were treated to the all-expenses paid event, which again took place at the Mercedes-Benz factory in Worth, Germany.
The UK and South African drivers' were given a left-hand-drive practice session on the Friday before the main event on Saturday. This was essential for them to familiarise themselves with the controls being ‘on the wrong side’, in addition to driving on the right hand side of the road.
This year the focus of the live exercises, that the contestants were judged on, was even more on efficient and economical driving. They included a ‘retarder only’ braking exercise and a 4 wheel drive Mercedes Zetros off-road driving challenge with fuel consumption also being measured towards the score. There was a short drive around the factory grounds in an articulated Actros V8, a test against the clock, which called for precise use of all controls as time and fuel consumption were being monitored, and then a much longer 60 km drive on public roads where the aim was to achieve the best FleetBoard grade possible.
All of the drivers' gave peak performances and took the competition to a whole new level during this year's event which coincides with the tenth anniversary of FleetBoard. Due to the high standard and quality of the driving, all of the drivers were able reduce their CO2 emissions by an additional 1%, which corresponds to approximately one additional tonne of CO2 per year per truck.
The day culminated in the luxurious Mercedes-Benz Customer Centre just opposite the main factory buildings, where the prize giving took place. Steve Hornsby achieved 8th position and Graham Huxley was placed 5th - a fantastic improvement on his 13th place in the previous year's event.

Congratulations not only to our UK entries for their fantastic efforts and for representing our country brilliantly, but also to the overall winner of the competition, Karsten Krüger from the company Doego Fruchthandel in Germany who walks away with a trip for two to Madrid, courtesy of UTA, including tickets to the European Championship Truck Race on 3rd October.
The atmosphere of this year's nail-biting event was electrifying and we look forward to next year's TRUCKERMANIA!
